4-H Camp – February 2007

As an OTS alumnus from Ohio State University, Dr. Grooms invites members from the Omicron chapter to join him in educating Michigan's youth. The 2-day camp is held near Cadillac, MI. Members served on a student panel to address questions about their education, requirements to get into veterinary school and about careers available in veterinary medicine. Members also had the opportunity to sit in on presentations given by professors and veterinarians on various topics.

Canine Cruise – October 2006

Our annual 5k run/walk for people and their dogs was a huge success once again this year. We were able to raise money for the Michigan Animal Rescue League. This event usually takes place around Halloween and includes a Pet Costume Contest. The race courses from the vet school along the Red Cedar River through the beautiful MSU campus.

Fall Food Drive – November

The OTS Fall Food Drive is an annual event, taking place during the fall to obtain donations to help the needy out during the holiday season. Collection boxes are placed throughout the vet school for a two-week period. All collections are donated to the Greater Lansing Food Bank.

Salvation Army Angel Tree – December

The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program was created so that all children may experience the magic of Christmas. Omega Tau Sigma serves as the organizer of this great event each year. We distribute the Angels and then help the Salvation Army with pick-up during the last week of school in December. This event has been very successful at the CVM – the Salvation Army has even had to make multiple trips because we fill up the truck!

Twilight Ball – Zoo Masquerade March 2007

Every year OTS organizes a school-wide dance with proceeds to benefit a local animal charity or organization. Last year we held the dance at the Potter Park Zoo to benefit the design and construction of a new veterinary hospital at the zoo. The evening started with a welcome address from Dr. Tara Harrison (vet at Potter Park Zoo), as well as a parade of some of the educational program animals.
